Motivation Monday: Celebrate Volunteerism

Sunday was the start of National Volunteer Week! National Volunteer Week is a time to celebrate people doing extraordinary things through service. Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week focuses national attention on the impact and power of volunteerism and service as an integral aspect of our civic leadership. The week draws the support and endorsement of the president and Congress, governors, mayors and municipal leaders, as well as corporate and community groups across the country. So, if you work for a non-profit and/or manage volunteers, please make sure to take some time to recognize the folks that help make your service, program, mission or organization possible.

And if you are a volunteer, thank you! Today, Words Alive will be hosting its fourth annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at Barra Barra Saloon in Old Town. We will celebrate volunteerism, successes and award 10 AMAZING volunteers for their time, dedication and efforts. Here is a flashback to 2010 - our first appreciation luncheon with one of my favorite people: Leroy Judkins. He was awarded the "Apple Award" which was literal in the sense he brings apples every Tuesday and Wednesday he comes into the office to volunteer. But also to recognize his motivation to make a difference at Words Alive.
