Thrifty Thursday: Bracelet Layering

My friends Carter and Danielle are bracelet layering gurus - everyday they sport a new set of bracelet stacking, which is fun, eclectic and stylish. So, as per their recommendation I'm conducting a bracelet layer how-to.

Rule #1: Stick with one arm. To avoid too much clutter or distraction, just mix and match your bracelets on one arm. With that said, if you plan to layer on both wrists, keep one arm simple with thinner bracelets or a watch.

Rule #2: Stack with your watch. This has become the most common way to layer. There are a variety of ways you can do this: stack with similar colors (all gold or all silver) or mix and match with colors (e.g., gold and white, silver and black, gold with beads). The idea is to mix both bold and simple pieces with your watch.

Rule #3: Layer with thin, stretchy bracelets. These bracelets can add just the right amount of color and they don't move around your arm, allowing you to stack as many as you desire (without causing too much distraction or noise).
Rule #4: Pick a theme. Disclaimer: rule #4 and #5 are going to completely contradict each other. But that's the beauty in this trend. The possibilities are endless. You can create a theme by stacking similar pieces; this is a clean, more polished way of stacking. For example, a theme can be all silver bangles, or all beaded bracelets.

Rule #5: Break the rules. Wear bracelets that don't organically go together. Like a friendship bracelet and a gold watch. Or, gold and silver. Pearls and chains, mixed in with a fuchsia bangle. An expensive piece with a 99 cent bracelet. The idea here is to not be afraid to experiment.
