What's New Wednesday: Rocket Launch

While visiting my dad in Cape Canaveral, Florida we had the unique opportunity to witness a rocket launch! Such a neat experience - one I will not forget. The clouds were dense; so, we really felt the launch more than we saw the vehicle. But regardless, it was so fascinating.

Here are the deets on the launch.

Mission: MUOS 2
(Mobile User Objective System Satellite)
Vehicle: Atlas V
Launch Site: SLC-41, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station
Date: Friday, July 19, 2013
Launch Window: 8:48 – 9:32 a.m.

The Navy Mobile User Objective System spacecraft is the second in a new generation of communications satellites. The 15,000-pound satellite acts like a cell phone tower in space, enabling troops to communicate on the move.
